UnkamenGifts

Un-common Journey

We didn’t set out to make jewelry as a family…..here is the journey of how we became unkamengifts and where we are now.

LEAH, now 16, began making jewelry in 2005 after a fellow RV’ing friend showed her a few of the basics. She took right to it and loved making jewelry for herself, and friends. Shortly after, she started selling it locally at craft fairs. She continues to make jewelry and other crafty things that strike her fancy. Busy studying for her GED,  SAT, CLEP and probably a few other initials, she also packages ALL the jewelry, making sure that everyone gets the right things! She is currently working on a new box design so there are pretty little boxes EVERYWHERE!
About the same time, her brother BYRON, now age 12, started collecting interesting rocks and polishing them with his dad’s help. He found that he enjoyed selling them as gratitude rocks, because the root of true happiness IS being grateful for everything that you have. Now, almost a teenager, he enjoys climbing rocks more that collecting them.

The third piece of this tale began almost 4 years ago when RALPH made a special little accessory for me, Karen. He  got such a charge out of seeing me wear it that he made more and more! Then one day he picked up a chainmaille kit at a local craft store. That was it! He was hooked! He now specializes in chainmaille and Leah is starting to work with it too! Ralph is a semi-retied engineer who occasionally enjoys consulting and troubleshooting aerosol manufacturers.

ME? I was happy to go along for the ride! NOW, I am the photographer, the web connection, the accountant,  the manager and sometimes the critic. I “test drive” every new design. AND,  I enjoy it all! In previous lives I was a RN, Registered Yoga Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer.

Where will this journey take us? Someone said that life IS a journey not a destination and it is a great ride!
