Quicky Tips To Improve Your Etsy Shop

by Karen on October 10, 2009

Karen At WorkMost everyone would like to know what to do to make their Etsy shop more successful. Even more than that, Shopkeepers would like to know what they can do fast, right now, asap to improve things. While I am not an expert, I can tell you my thoughts about what would quickly, and relatively easily help many shops that I have viewed recently.

1. Use ALL 14 tags. Do a search for a similar item and see what other sellers are using for tags. You can use multi word phrases in one tag.

2.Pick the correct top tag. I just fixed this error myself with an ipod Shuffle pouch that you can wear around your neck…which I tagged as jewelry and we weren’t getting any views. I changed it to” purses and bags”  and the views jumped.

3.Have a friend, a pretty good one, look at your photos and give you an honest opinion. Are they blurry?Dark?Glare? Can they tell what they are looking at? We are not going for FrontPage here yet, just acceptable, recognizable photos.

4.Set a tape measure next to your computer. Measure your item in American and metric.

5.Inform your potential customers as to when you could ship the item; does it have to be made? Do you only go to the PO on the 3rd Wed of the month?

6.Make your shipping profile in line with others who have similar products. Sometimes we make a little on shipping, sometimes we lose a little. We don’t sweat it. We make it reasonable and simple in hopes to not turn the prospective customer off.

7.Describe your item in the title so the prospective buy has a clue before clicking on it. It is also what will be submitted to Google Base…and BTW, start looking at your Google Base in the listing preview.

8.Run some promotions but don’t have everything on sale all the time. Create a little urgency for the prospective customer to buy now and it also gives you something to tweet, blog etc about.

9.Check your spellling and grammar! It looks very unprofessional and careless to have these errors.

10.Fill out the materials section so your prospective customer can be informed about your creation.

These are just the start…but a very good one! Next up, we will go more in depth with tips that take a little more time and perhaps a little money.
